Lifeguard Training (LGT)

Lifeguard Training teaches you the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to aquatic emergencies, including First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with a focus on being professional, proactive and prepared to respond.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be at least 15 years old before course completion and be able to pass a pre-course skills evaluation that requires you to:

1. Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order

  • 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing
    view demonstration

  • 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence
    view demonstration

  • 100 yards of front crawl or breaststroke or a combination of both

2. Brick Retrieval

  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using freestyle or breaststroke
  • Surface dive 7 – 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object and return to the surface
  • Swim 20 yards back to your starting point with both hands on the object
  • Exit the water without using steps or a ladder
  • Complete the event within 1 minute and 40 seconds

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer teaches you how to recognize and respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. This includes performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Upon successful completion of the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer course, participants will receive the following certification:

Shallow Water Attendant

Shallow Water Attendant teaches you the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 4 feet deep. All of the water skills presume that the participant can stand in water up to 4 feet deep and breathe normally. This course is not intended for those who wish to work at a facility that includes depths greater than 4 feet deep.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be at least 15 years old before course completion and be able to pass a pre-course skills evaluation that requires you to:

1. Swim 50 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:

2. Brick Retrieval:

  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using freestyle or breaststroke
  • Submerge to a depth of 4 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object and return to the surface
  • Walk back to your starting point with both hands on the object
  • Exit the water without using steps or a ladder
  • Complete the event within 50 seconds

Upon successful completion of the Shallow Water Attendant course, participants will receive the following certifications:
